We looked at the work of Pop artist Andy Warhol, and they they created Pop Art versions of themselves. We used various watercolor techniques to create the backgrounds for the prints, while I took close-up pictures of each student. Working from their picture, they drew a simplified version of themselves and transferred it onto a linoleum block for carving. After they carved all negative spaces, they made about 6 prints onto their watercolor backgrounds. They chose their four favorite, and collaged them together onto a final piece of paper. Here they are!

I am excited to be back for another semester with new students and new lessons! The students spent the first few days designing and personalizing their sketchbook covers. Then, we looked at the work of several contemporary scratch board artists, including Ann Ranlett, while learning to create visual texture and volume in their piece. Here is what the young artists came up with! Some of them painted their pieces with colored inks once they finished scratching them out.
Here are samples of student works from my high school digital arts class. They were made using Photoshop and other Adobe software. Some assignments included Pop Art portraits, a Surrealist piece, identity silhouettes, black and white photos with selective coloring, and magazine cover design. Enjoy!
